Relations between the two nations deteriorated since India's Hindu patriot government headed by Top state leader Narendra Modi rejected the fractional independence of Indian-managed Kashmir, the country's just Muslim-larger part area, in 2019.

Both nuclear powers in South Asia claim Kashmir, a Himalayan region in the Himalayas, but only in part.

The neighbors have fought two of their three full-scale wars over the disputed territory of Kashmir since 1947, when India gained independence from the British and Pakistan was formed after a bloody partition.

In the latter part of the 1980s, in Kashmir, an armed rebellion against the rule of New Delhi began. Rights groups claim that the conflict in the region has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people since 1989.

Islamabad is accused by New Delhi of supporting the Kashmiri rebels, who are fighting for either an independent state or a merger with Pakistan.

The claim is refuted by Islamabad, which claims that it only provides diplomatic assistance to the region's struggle for self-determination.
